This restored 1989 Toyota FJ62 Land Cruiser was a full custom build commissioned by its owner and built from the frame up at our shop in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Finished in a factory Toyota two-tone scheme, it pairs classic 60 Series styling with a supercharged LS3 e-rod drivetrain, a serious heavy-duty towing package, and an interior the owner hand-selected to match the exterior. This was a no-shortcuts FJ62 Land Cruiser restoration built to be driven hard and towed with confidence.

Performance and Drivetrain
This FJ62 Land Cruiser was built around a supercharged 6.0 V8 paired with an automatic transmission. A new Advance Adapters transfer case adapter mates the drivetrain to the four-wheel-drive system, and our custom engine air filter design with a baffle was tucked behind the left front headlight bezel. The front Birfield knuckles were rebuilt and the rear was converted to disc brakes with all new ceramic pads. An ARB air locker was installed in the rear with the compressor mounted under the hood on the passenger fender, and the locker switch was placed on the front of the center console for easy reach.
Suspension was fully upgraded with a complete Old Man Emu system, heavy springs front and rear, shocks, greaseable shackles, and a steering stabilizer. The air conditioning was converted to R134a, and all factory heat and A/C vents were returned to proper factory operation.
Towing Package
This FJ62 Land Cruiser was built to tow. The rear frame was reinforced with quarter-inch plated steel to accommodate roughly 10,000 lbs of pull capacity and around 2,000 lbs of tongue weight. A round 7-pin and a flat 4-pin plug were installed at the rear, along with a trailer brake controller mounted below the dash within easy reach of the driver seat. A separate camera was added for the trailer hitch to make hooking up and backing simple.
Exterior, Factory Two-Tone
The body was sanded and media blasted, then the frame and underside were treated with Rust Bullet followed by 3M rubberized undercoating for long-term corrosion protection. Paint was done in a factory Toyota two-tone scheme, built up with sealer, primer, two coats of color, and two coats of clear. The body is rust free throughout.
The exterior features new OEM chrome front and rear bumpers with end caps, four new Grote LED headlights, and a new windshield with fresh rubber seal. Our custom roof rack was powder coated silver and fitted with a wind deflector up front and two forward-facing LED lights controlled by a rocker switch on the center console. Our custom rock sliders were powder coated smooth black. Body chrome emblems and zinc-plated hardware were replaced or reconditioned as needed.
1989 FJ62 Land Cruiser Interior
The interior of this FJ62 Land Cruiser was hand-selected by the owner to complement the two-tone exterior. Scheel-Mann heated front seats in a gray buffalo-check cloth with black bolsters anchor the cabin, with a heat control switch mounted on the front of the center console. The rear seat was reupholstered in marine-grade vinyl to match the front color scheme, and all new carpet and padding was installed throughout. The entire floor, all doors, the wheel wells, and the firewall were soundproofed for a quiet ride.
A solid off-white headliner replaces the factory material for a cleaner look. The instrument cluster was upgraded to a SpeedHut setup, and a new head unit was installed with Sirius XM and a roof-mounted antenna, Bluetooth, navigation, and a backup camera, paired with all new speakers throughout. The original shifter was retained, the rear power windows were reconditioned to operate faster, the electric antenna was repaired and connected for AM/FM, and the sun visors were replaced.
