FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser Restorations & Repair
The FJ60 is where the modern Land Cruiser story really begins. Produced from 1981 to 1987, it brought genuine comfort and capability together in a way no Land Cruiser had before, and it did it with Toyota’s legendary 2F engine and a 4-speed manual transmission built to last.
The problem? Like the FJ62, stock FJ60s are underpowered for today’s highways. And rust, rust is the devil. After 40-plus years, these trucks need real metalwork, not patches. We cut out the bad metal and replace it with new. No shortcuts.
We Build to Suit
The FJ60 gives you options the FJ62 doesn’t, starting with how it looks. Those classic twin round headlights have a look that a lot of enthusiasts genuinely prefer over the rectangular lights the FJ62 introduced. If you love the way the FJ60 looks, that’s reason enough to keep one.
And under the hood, you have choices too. US market FJ60s came with a 4-speed manual, but if you love rowing gears, we can upgrade you to the sought-after 5-speed H55F transmission while keeping that classic driving feel. Or stick with the 4-speed and have it properly refreshed. We can pull the 2F engine, fully refurbish it, replacing pulleys, belts, seals and more, painting it up, and put it back in for a truck that feels factory fresh but drives like new. Not a rebuilt engine. A properly refurbished one.
Or if you want modern power, we do the full LS3 6.2L V8 with a 6-speed automatic conversion, the same transformation we’re known for across all FJ series. The FJ60 is also one of our most popular platforms for vintage Toyota Land Cruisers for sale, where the classic round-headlight look is paired with custom interiors and modern drivetrain.
Not every FJ60 needs everything. Not every budget is the same. We work with you to figure out exactly what your Cruiser needs and build accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What years were the FJ60 produced?
The Toyota FJ60 was produced from 1981 to 1987, powered by the 2F inline six engine and a 4-speed manual transmission in US market trucks.
What’s the difference between the FJ60 and FJ62?
The FJ60 features twin round headlights and the carbureted 2F engine with a manual transmission. The FJ62, produced from 1988 to 1990, introduced rectangular headlights, the fuel-injected 3F-E engine, and an automatic transmission. Many enthusiasts prefer the FJ60’s classic round-headlight look.
Can you upgrade an FJ60 to a 5-speed transmission?
Yes. We can upgrade your FJ60 from the factory 4-speed to the sought-after H55F 5-speed manual transmission, giving you an extra overdrive gear for highway driving while keeping the classic manual feel.
Do you do V8 conversions on the FJ60?
Yes. We offer full LS3 6.2L V8 conversions with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the same upgrade we’re known for across all FJ series Land Cruisers.
How bad is rust on a typical FJ60 restoration?
After 40-plus years, most FJ60s have significant rust that needs real metalwork. We don’t patch or hide rust, we cut out the affected metal and replace it with new. It’s more work, but it’s the only way to do it right.
Do you work with out-of-state FJ60 customers?
Yes, we serve clients nationwide and offer free shipping both directions on FJ60 restorations. Your Cruiser comes to us in Belle Plaine, Kansas, and we deliver it back to your door when the build is complete.
