What Engine Came in the FJ62 Land Cruiser?
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 was produced from 1988 to 1990 for the U.S. market (and until the early 1990s in some other regions). It was an updated version of the FJ60, featuring a more modern drivetrain and additional comfort features.
Engine Specification
- Engine Code – 3F‑E
- Type – 4.0‑liter inline‑six, naturally aspirated, gasoline
- Fuel System – Electronic fuel injection (EFI), which replaced the carbureted setup in the FJ60
- Output – Approximately 155 horsepower and 220 lb‑ft of torque
- Configuration – Overhead valve (OHV) with 12 valves
Differences from the FJ60
The biggest mechanical change from the FJ60 to the FJ62 was the introduction of the fuel‑injected 3F‑E engine, which offered smoother operation, better cold starting, and slightly improved performance. This upgrade made the FJ62 more reliable in varying climates and more compliant with emissions standards.
Transmission & Drivetrain
In the U.S., the FJ62 came with a 4‑speed automatic transmission (A440F) as standard, paired with a part‑time four‑wheel‑drive system and a two‑speed transfer case.
