Overview
This 1988 FJ62 is currently undergoing a comprehensive, frame-up restoration and modernization. The foundation is a rust-free, lifelong Texas truck — a rare starting point that sets this build apart from the beginning. Every component is being addressed, from the powertrain to the interior, with the goal of delivering a Land Cruiser that drives as well as it looks.
Drivetrain
At the heart of this build is a 2012 5.3L Vortec V8 paired with a 6L80E 6-speed automatic transmission, sourced with only 73,000 miles. This powertrain upgrade offers a substantial improvement over the factory configuration — dual overdrive gears reduce highway RPMs for a more relaxed, fuel-efficient cruise, while the stronger internals support improved towing capacity and long-term reliability. The result is a seamless blend of classic Land Cruiser character and modern drivability.
Exterior
The body is being refinished in Desert Tan with a full repaint currently in progress. Exterior upgrades include new wheels and tires, custom front and rear bumpers, new headlights, grille, and bezel. Full undercarriage treatment has been completed.
Interior
The cabin is receiving a complete overhaul, including new carpet, padding, and sound deadening for a noticeably quieter ride. A touchscreen sound system will be integrated, and upholstery selections remain open for the right buyer to customize.
