How Does the Land Cruiser Double Tank System Work

The Land Cruiser double tank system is designed to extend the vehicle’s driving range by using two separate fuel tanks,  a main tank and a sub tank. This setup is particularly valuable for long-distance travel, off-road adventures, and expeditions where fuel stations are scarce.

Main Components of the Double Tank System

  • Main tank – The primary fuel reservoir, usually located under the rear of the vehicle.
  • Sub tank – An auxiliary tank, often installed under the body or in the chassis rails.
  • Fuel transfer system – Uses either a pump or gravity feed to move fuel from the sub tank to the main tank.
  • Switch and indicator – Allows the driver to control and monitor fuel transfer between tanks.

How It Operates

  • Fuel is drawn from the main tank during normal driving.
  • When the main tank level drops, the driver activates the transfer system.
  • The sub tank then sends fuel into the main tank until empty or until the driver stops the process.
